The innermost circle of China's ruling elite is called the Politburo Standing Committee, with seven members.

President Xi Jinping is the highest ranked, and in recent years Li Keqiang has been second.

But now Li is not allowed to stay any longer, according to the list of names published on Saturday.

It is partly interpreted as Xi strengthening his dictatorial grip on the world's most populous country, and partly as a rejection of the economic reforms that Li stood for.

The ex-president was led out of the hall

Ex-president Hu Jintao also unexpectedly found himself in the spotlight.

In the middle of the closing ceremony, 79-year-old Hu was led out of the hall.

Suddenly a man appears who takes Hu Jintao under the arm and tries to lead him away.

The ex-president is then escorted out by two men.

There is speculation that it could be for health reasons, but no explanation was immediately given.

The Communist Party's congress takes place every five years and must determine how the dictatorship is governed in the coming period.

According to tightly controlled state media, a new central committee was elected on Saturday morning.

It consists of approximately 205 people and in turn elects a Politburo of approximately 20 people.

And the Politburo thus has a permanent committee of 7 people who have the ultimate power.

More famous names are missing

Missing from the 205-name list are Li Keqiang and three other former leaders, Han Zheng, Wang Yang and Li Zhanshu.

Xi Jinping, on the other hand, is re-elected.

A congressional resolution puts it as all Chinese Party members have the duty to "uphold Comrade Xi Jinping's key position in the Party's Central Committee."
