Giorgia Meloni, leader of the post-fascist party Fratelli d'Italia, winner of the legislative elections, has been asked to form a government by President Sergio Mattarella, announced the secretary general of the presidency.
Mrs. Meloni, 45, accepted this responsibility, becoming the first woman called to this function in the history of the country.
She will present the composition of her government on Friday afternoon, which will take the oath on Saturday morning at 08:00 GMT at the Quirinal Palace.
