More than 10,000 meetings of local initiatives were organized and the Great Debate platform received 1.9 million contributions, according to the government.

Nearly 2 million online contributions, more than 10,000 local meetings that involved nearly 500,000 people, 630,000 digitized pages and a total cost of 12 million euros: here are the main figures of the great national debate, according to its organizers. Figures that offer a wide angle picture ... of those who have been willing to play the game of great debate, and which, in fact, is not representative of the opinion of all French.

1,932,881 contributions online

Some 2,800,000 unique visitors visited the granddebat.fr platform, with 506,000 individual contributors. They provided 1,364,000 contributions to closed questions and 569,020 contributions to open proposals, for a total of 1,932,881 contributions online.

10,134 local meetings

More than 10,000 meetings were held locally, each with an average of 45 participants. In total, the number of participants is estimated at 500,000.

In detail, 50% of meetings were organized by elected officials, 30% by citizens, and 20% by associations and NGOs. These meetings were even exported, since 282 meetings took place outside France, in 82 countries. And 21 citizen conferences, seven of which were held overseas, with 1,404 participants in total, drawn by lot.

About 630,000 pages processed

In all, 45,000 documents, or more than 629,000 typewritten or handwritten pages, were handled by the Grand Debate Mission and its contractors. These very many data have been analyzed thanks to artificial intelligence.

Unsurprisingly, the low-income tax arrived at the top of the claims. 28% of participants want a VAT reduction, 19% a reduction in income tax. Many contributions on ecology have also been identified, with a very shared sense of urgency. On the democratic side, mistrust of elected officials is strong. The decline in the number of parliamentarians and the introduction of a proportional dose are among the measures favored by the participants.

The cost of the big debate, expected to be around 10 million euros, is about 12 million euros.
