The 22-year-old Egan Bernal is the third youngest winner in Tour history. But the youngest of the post-war years.

Egan Bernal became Sunday in Paris the third youngest winner in the history of the Tour de France, at 22 years and six months, learned AFP from statisticians. The Colombian is only preceded by Henri Cornet, who did not even reach his 20th birthday at the end of the 1904 Tour, the second in the chronology of the event. But Cornet had taken the 5th place of the race on the field before the first four were downgraded, several months later, because of many incidents.

Winner at the same age as Felice Gimondi

With 22 years and 6 months, Bernal is the same age as the Luxembourger Francois Faber, the winner of 1909. But Faber was younger ... nine days, compared to the Colombian at the time of their respective victories. It should be noted however that Bernal is the youngest winner of the Tour of the post-war period. The Italian Felice Gimondi was also 22 years old (and 10 months old) during his victory in 1965, from his first participation. Gimondi was once again on the podium (2nd in 1972), but without ever winning the Tour.
