THE THEME OF THE DAY

Sahra Wagenknecht's new collection movement is intended to deter voters from the AfD

"Getting Up" is the name of a controversial collection movement that Sahra Wagenknecht and her husband Oskar Lafontaine have launched. Today, the project to address homeless voters and prevent them from emigrating to the AfD was presented at the Federal Press Conference. However, top politicians of red and green were missing.

SPD Vice Ralf Stegner attacked Wagenknecht and Lafontaine instead as "notorious separatists". Even Juso boss Kevin Kühnert went at a distance. Our colleagues Christian Teevs and Felix Wellisch were at the start of "getting up" (here it goes to the video) - and have seen how difficult it might be to change the policy of the SPD, the Greens and the left with the new movement. Read the analysis here.

THE QUOTE OF THE DAY

"Everything is wet, the shirt is wet, your hand is wet, which makes it even more difficult."

Well, who complains? It's tennis star Roger Federer who sensationally dropped out against Australian John Millman at the US Open. The sweaty conditions in Flushing Meadows for the 37-year-old can not have come as surprising. The last time he won there in 2008. At some point time is running against a legend.

NEWS

What you need to know today

  • A third suspect in Chemnitz. First, two men were arrested following the fatal knife attack of 26 August. Today, the Attorney General suddenly issued an arrest warrant for another urgent suspect.
  • The mayor of Chemnitz does not want to give up the frustrated citizens who joined in the right-wing demos. It would be a mistake to pick up all those who are still open to discussion and accessible, said Barbara Ludwig to our colleague Max Holscher. Read the interview here.
  • In the US Senate today, the hearing of Judge Brett Kavanaugh for the Supreme Court began. The republican, who is considered conservative, must answer the senators for three to four days. With him, President Trump wants to consolidate his influence on the Supreme Court.

OPINION

There can not be enough Antifa: That's what our columnist Margarete Stokowski thinks, and she stands up for left-wing activists in light of the shameful events in Chemnitz. Because the right-wing extremists would encounter in Germany too little resistance.

MY EVENING

The recommendation for your closing time

The school year is still young, and the first parents' evening is already on? Stop the commercial breaks and watch the comedy "Frau Müller has to go" by Sönke Wortmann at 8.15 pm on Sat.1. Led by Anke Engelke rabid helicopter parents try to get rid of a teacher - because this does not necessarily want to give each child a recommendation for high school.

The Blaze: Dancehall

Or rather listen to new music? Then you are right with our column "Listened". This time it's about "Dancehall", the new album of the French duo The Blaze.

We wish you a nice evening.
