THE THEME OF THE DAY

"NSU 2.0": The Frankfurt police have to investigate inside

A lawyer gets a fax, in it is the threat to read, they want to "slaughter" their two-year-old daughter. Time to contact the police. But what if policemen could have something to do with it?

The case of Seda Basay-Yildiz, who received the fax, shocked the Frankfurt police. Because: From a PC of the 1st district of Frankfurt had registered entries to Basay-Yildiz been queried - apparently without official reasons. This address was not actually public, but it appears in the fax.

Five officers were targeted by the internal investigators. Among other things, they are said to have sent out inciting messages in a chat group. What's been known about the case so far. Politics calls for enlightenment.

Although the senders remain anonymous, they call themselves "NSU 2.0". The name with reference to the Zwickau terrorist cell "National Socialist Underground" (NSU) makes clear why Basay-Yildiz was the recipient of the threat: The lawyer defends, inter alia, the alleged bodyguard Osama Bin Laden, Sami A., she also represented victims of the NSU in court. "To see how much injustice was done to the victims of NSU, Seda Basay-Yildiz has changed," writes Wiebke Ramm in a portrait about the lawyer.

THE NUMBER OF THE DAY

19000000

Parcel deliverers in Germany will deliver 19 million parcels this Christmas during a peak day - at least when both DHL and its competitors GLS, DPD and Hermes reach their maximum. For infrastructure, environment and personnel a collapse threatens. Critics like Johannes Bröckers resort to a boycott. But there are other solutions too, writes my colleague Florian Gontek.

The recommendations for your closing time

What you can do: You still need inspiration for a Christmas present, but do not want to contribute to the package insanity, but just go to the nearest bookstore? Or you long for screen-free relaxation? Then take a look at the SPIEGEL bestseller list. Especially "The Inmate" is like any other book by Sebastian Fitzek difficult to put out of hand. And if Jonas Jonasson considers the quality of the first part to be a "centenarian," then you should not go wrong with "The Centenarian Returning to Save the World."
