Aisha Al Mansouri.. The first Emirati captain in commercial aviation

Captain Aisha Al-Mansoori became the first Emirati captain for a commercial airline in the country, as the "Etihad Airways Group", the national carrier of the United Arab Emirates, celebrated the outstanding achievement that was added to the balance of the achievements of the aviation sector in the Emirates.

The 33-year-old captain joined Etihad Airways' Trainee Pilot Program in October 2007 and was one of two young Emirati women in her cohort.

In 2010, Aisha successfully graduated from the program and took her first commercial flight on an Airbus A320 to Amman, Jordan.

Since then, Aisha has risen through the ranks, completing the required flying hours to obtain the rank of advanced co-pilot.

At the time, she was the first Emirati pilot to fly the giant Airbus A380 airliner.

Al-Mansoori completed the Etihad training program, fulfilled the mandatory flying hours, and passed all examinations, to officially become the first Emirati captain to hold an air transport pilot’s license in the UAE.

Captain Al-Mansoori said:

“I am proud to be the first Emirati woman to attain the rank of captain in a commercial airline, which is the national carrier of my country, and I hope to inspire other young women to enter the field of aviation.”

Aisha Al Mansoori will take up her duties as a pilot on a regular basis starting from August 28, the day of Emirati Women's Day.
