Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, celebrates Captain Aisha Al Mansouri, who became the first female Emirati captain for a commercial airline in the country.

This outstanding achievement is added to the balance of the achievements of the aviation sector in the Emirates.

This comes within the framework of Etihad Airways' commitment to the Emiratisation strategy and its efforts to expand the roles of women in various fields, and the pilot community in particular.

The promotion ceremony was held at the Etihad Airways Cabin Crew Briefing Center, in the presence of Captain Aisha's family, fellow Etihad pilots and senior management of the airline.

The 33-year-old captain joined Etihad Airways' Trainee Pilot Program in October 2007 and was one of two young Emiratis in her cohort.

In 2010, Aisha successfully graduated from the program and took her first commercial flight on an Airbus A320 to Amman, Jordan.

Since then, Aisha has risen in the ranks, completing the required flying hours to obtain the rank of advanced co-pilot.

At the time, she was the first Emirati female pilot to fly the Airbus A380 superjumbo.

To earn the rank of captain, Aisha Al-Mansoori completed the Etihad training program and met the mandatory flying hours to become eligible for promotion.

She also passed all examinations and theoretical knowledge tests of the General Civil Aviation Authority of the UAE, and flight exams, thus officially becoming the first Emirati captain to hold an air transport pilot's license in the UAE.

For his part, Mohammed Abdullah Al Bulooki, Chief Operating Officer and Commercial Operations at Etihad Aviation Group, said: “Etihad is proud of the accomplishment of the daughter of the Emirates, Captain Aisha Al Mansouri, and the pioneering role she has taken to set a role model for women in the field of aviation in the country. Aisha will undoubtedly be the first among many others. ambitious young women, and we look forward to welcoming more Emirati female captains in the future.”

“Etihad Airways is committed to its Emiratisation strategy and is keen to enhance the opportunities of Emirati women and their contributions to the growth of the aviation industry.”

“Aviation does not discriminate between the sexes, and to prove oneself, Etihad pilots undergo extensive testing and rigorous requirements with a requirement to complete flying hours to meet the highest standards of international aviation training.”

“Aisha has earned her well-deserved rank and in turn will inspire other young Emirati women who are working hard to achieve their dreams in aviation.”

On this occasion, Captain Aisha Al Mansouri said: “I am very grateful for the opportunity to join the Etihad Airways program to train pilots and develop my career over the years with Etihad Airways. I am also grateful for the tremendous support I received from those responsible for my training at Etihad and their precious guidance and advice that She helped me develop my skills and prepared me for this rank."

“I am proud to be the first Emirati woman to attain the rank of captain in a commercial airline, which is the national carrier of my country, and I hope to inspire other young women to enter the field of aviation.”

Aisha Al Mansouri will be taking up her duties as a pilot on a regular basis starting from August 28, the day of Emirati Women’s Day.
