Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - In view of the stresses caused by the corona pandemic, helpers have welcomed the restrictions on New Year's Eve.

"Not only for many people, but also for our entire health system this year was a huge burden," said Norbert Södler, President of the Hesse State Association of the German Red Cross (DRK), on Tuesday of the German Press Agency.

"Despite all understanding of the party mood and the joy of heavenly glittering effects, the waiver of fireworks and meetings on New Year's Eve 20/21 is welcome due to the high risk of injury and the already existing heavy burden on the emergency services, the fire brigades and the medical staff."

Because of the corona pandemic, New Year's Eve cannot be celebrated as usual this year.

The sale of fireworks is forbidden, as is the setting down of firecrackers and rockets "in public places with high public appeal".

Contact restrictions apply, alcohol is not to be drunk in public.

In some municipalities there is also a nocturnal exit restriction.
