Erfurt (dpa / th) - Regardless of the New Year's Eve fireworks ban in public space in Thuringia, thieves in Erfurt have stocked up on plenty of material for fireworks.

In a shopping market in Erfurt, they stole 17 boxes with New Year's rockets, as the police announced on Tuesday.

They were stored in the discounter's warehouse, where the perpetrators helped themselves.

The police said the value of the stolen property was more than 1700 euros.

Because of the corona pandemic, New Year's Eve fireworks are forbidden on public streets, squares and in parks in Thuringia this year.

The sale of fireworks in shops is also prohibited.
