Future Prime Minister of Italy George Meloni accepted a mandate to form a government

The leader of the Italian Brothers of Italy party that won the parliamentary elections, George Meloni, accepted a mandate to form the government of Italy. She became the first woman to serve as prime minister. The new government will be sworn in on 22 October.

According to Rai News, Meloni's meeting with President Sergio Mattarella lasted at least an hour.

The centre-right coalition of the Brothers of Italy, League and Fort Italia parties won 44.53% in the elections to the upper house of parliament after processing more than 90% of the ballots.

European Parliament Vice President Katarina Barli said that the victory of the center-right coalition in the elections in Italy is worrying.
