The German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen had his share of the result with a goalkeeper error. After the defeat, Barcelona have only one point ahead of second-placed Atlético Madrid with 24 points.

Júnior Firpo (20th minute) and Joaquín (34th) provided a comfortable half-time lead for Real Betis. Shortly after the first goal by Lionel Messi (68th) ter Stegen caused with a goalkeeper error the 1: 3 for Real Betis.

Giovani Lo Celso scored from eleven meters central on goal. Ter Stegen jerked his arms up but slipped the ball through his hands into the goal. The fourth goal for Sevilla was scored by Sergio Canales (83 '). For Barça, Arturo Vidal (79.) and Messi (90. + 1) each scored for the first goal.

Despite his mistake, ter Stegen set a new record against Real Betis. He overtook former Madrid Real Madrid goalkeeper Bodo Illgner with his 92nd campaign for FC Barcelona as the German goalkeeper with the most stakes in La Liga.
