A national basketball team with concerns trained in Norrköping, before departure to Great Britain and the start of the European Championship qualifiers. How will older stars be replaced, while Sweden is transformed into a winning team?

Elin and Frida Eldebrink quit the national team after Euro 2021, but came back to save Sweden in this year's European Championship qualifiers. It failed, as Sweden lost all four games against Israel and Latvia.

Only Frida Eldebrink left

Amanda Zahui had the best scoring average in the Swedish team, and grabbed the most rebounds, but now she has turned down the national team. And of the Eldebrink sisters, only half remains, as Elin Eldebrink has injured a knee.

"My role in the national team now will be to show leadership and energy, I guess that's what happens when you get older," says 35-year-old Frida Eldebrink.

Lundquist: "Must take a leadership role"

A new generation of Swedish basketball players must grow to international class, not least because the European Championship qualifiers aim for a championship two years away. By all accounts, the national team of the future will be built around the cogwheel Klara Lundqvist.

"I have to pick up the pace and take a leadership role," Lundquist told SVT Sport.

Sweden start the European Championship qualifiers away to Great Britain on Thursday, and play at home to Denmark on Sunday.
