The individual competition of the National Student Championship, which determines the "student yokozuna" of sumo wrestling, was held in Osaka, and Naoya Kusano, a fourth-year student at Japan University, won the championship for the first time.

This tournament, which began in Taisho 8, celebrated its 101st year, and on the 4th, an individual tournament was held in Sakai City, Osaka.

Kusano won the match based on his specialty of four-way sumo wrestling, and in the final, he faced Shun Ikeda, a fourth-year student at Kanazawa Gakuin University, who is also good at four-way sumo.

Kusano fell to the ground after the fight and went for a scoop throw with Ikeda.

Initially, Ikeda was declared victorious, but Ikeda's hand was on the field first, and as a result of discussion, Kusano won the championship and won the first "Student Yokozuna".

Kusano said, "I was nervous, but I felt that I was behind the others, so I just had to wait for the result. I've been nervous for a week and haven't been able to sleep, so I'm happy to have won."

On the other hand, the eligibility to debut in the 1th rating of the makushita in sumo wrestling, which had been given to the winner of this tournament until now, has been abolished after the Japan Sumo Association reviewed the system.

Instead, it is unified that the Bakugo is eligible for the 15th lowest rating if it is in the top 8 or higher.
