Promising Barcelona star and Moroccan-born winger Amine Jamal made his name in the history of the Spanish national team by scoring a goal from the seven-way victory over his Georgian counterpart at home 7-1, Friday, in the fifth phase of the first group of qualifiers for the 2024 European Cup.

Jamal's achievement overshadowed the brilliance of Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, who scored a hat-trick, after becoming the first at the age of 16 years and 57 days the youngest player in history to defend the colors of the Spanish national team, and the youngest scorer in its ranks.

Jamal told Spanish broadcaster TDP: "I'm very happy with my debut and my goal."

Jamal broke the previous record for the youngest player to wear the Spain shirt held by his Barcelona teammate Gavi, as he made his debut against Georgia in 2021 at the age of 17 years and 62 days, knowing that he also held the record for the youngest scorer when he scored in June 2022 against the Czech Republic in the UEFA Nations League at the age of 17 years and 304 days.

Jamal became the youngest player ever at Barcelona to feature in La Liga in April when he came on as a substitute at the age of 15 years and 9 months for the Spanish champions against Real Betis.

Jamal sparked a big competition between Morocco, where his father has his roots, and Spain, where he was born in Barcelona, but the player, who also holds Equatorial Guinea citizenship from his mother, decided to join La Roja.

Jamal and Gavi inherited the flame of Spain's youngest goalscorer from their former Barcelona teammate (he moved to Brighton this season on loan) Ansu Fati, who in 2020 was named "Spain's youngest goalscorer" by scoring a goal at the age of 17 years and 311 days.
