National coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg has to miss the first international matches of the German footballers after the World Cup bankruptcy in Australia and New Zealand due to illness. As the German Football Association (DFB) announced, assistant coach Britta Carlsson will represent her boss in the Nations League matches on 22 September (18:26 CET) against hosts Denmark in Viborg and on 18 September (from 15:<> CET) in Bochum against Iceland.

The plan was to carry out an analysis of the tournament after the disastrous performance at the World Cup. Work on this had already begun at the DFB, but its continuation and publication of the results are now being delayed until Voss-Tecklenburg's return, according to the DFB. The DFB did not announce more details about the illness of the 55-year-old Voss-Tecklenburg.

"First of all, we wish Martina a speedy recovery and hope that she will return to our team soon," said Joti Chatzialexiou, sporting director of the national teams. The goal is clear: "We want to qualify for the Olympic Games."

Tickets for the Summer Games in Paris 2024 will be awarded via the Nations League this time. Only two European teams can qualify. After the opener in Denmark, they will face the Icelanders in Bochum on 26 September. As a reinforcement for Carlsson and the assistant coaching team around Michael Urbansky, U17 national coach Sabine Loderer will also be temporarily on the coaching staff.
