【Click here for details】49 schools participating in Koshien will appear, and there are also voices of "eventful summer"

This year marks the 105th edition of the National High School Baseball Tournament, and 49 representative schools that have won regional tournaments will participate.

Sendai Ikuei High School in Miyagi, which won the championship for the first time as a Tohoku team last year, will aim to win back-to-back titles.

In addition, six schools participated for the first time
: ▽ Kyoei Gakuen
in East Tokyo ▽ Tokyo Gakkan Niigata High School in Niigata ▽ Hamamatsu Kaiseikan High School in Shizuoka ▽ Kochi Central High School

▽ Tosu Industry
in Saga▽ Miyazaki Gakuen will step on the soil of Koshien for the first time throughout spring and summer.

This year, as a new measure against the heat, a 6-minute "cooling time" was introduced after the fifth inning, allowing players to cool down and rehydrate during the match to rest.

In addition, the number of substitute players on the bench has increased by two to 5, as the role of substitute players is increasing from the viewpoint of measures against the heat.

In addition, last year, the opening ceremony was changed to a format in which only the captain marched to the entrance due to a series of new coronavirus infections among the players of the representative school just before the start of the tournament, but the summer tournament will be held with all the players of the representative school participating for the first time in four years, and restrictions on infection control measures will be relaxed.

The tournament will be held over a 10-day schedule, including three rest days.

《Highlights of the first day of the tournament》

The summer national high school baseball season will open on the 6th, and the opening ceremony will be followed by three first-round games.

1st Match Tsuchiura Hidaka (Ibaraki) × Ueda Nishi (Nagano)

The first match will be between Tsuchiura Nichidai High School in Ibaraki and Ueda Nishi High School in Nagano.

Tsuchiura Nichidai practiced repeatedly in intrasquad games to reverse a three-run lead, and in the final of the Ibaraki tournament, they came back from behind 1-3 in the ninth inning with a timely hit by No. 0 Sota Katori, and the practice paid off and they won their first appearance in five years.

Ueda Nishi, on the other hand, had a solid defense with zero errors at the Nagano Tournament, led by shortstop Seiya Yokoyama, and scored six runs in the eighth inning in the final to qualify for the tournament for the first time in eight years.

It is a match between teams that have tenacity in the final stages.

2nd Match Kyoei Gakuen (Higashitokyo) × Seikouin (Fukushima)

The second match will be between Kyoei Gakuen in East Tokyo and Seikouin in Fukushima.

Kyoei Gakuen came back from two outs in the ninth inning in both the semifinals and finals of the East Tokyo Tournament to make their first appearance in dramatic fashion.

Seikouin, who advanced to the final four in the previous tournament, are characterized by an unbroken batting line-up centered on captain Kazuki Takanaka and No. 2 Genki Miyoshi, who were regular players in the previous team.

3rd Match Urawa Gakuin (Saitama) × Sendai Ikuei (Miyagi)

The third match will be between Urawa Gakuin in Saitama and Sendai Ikuei High School in Miyagi, who won their first championship as a Tohoku team last year and are aiming to win back-to-back titles.

Urawa Gakuin advocated "super fast attack" in attack, and in the Saitama tournament, they scored the first goal in all seven matches.

No. 3 player Seishu Kobayashi, who has a batting average of 7/4/8, is characterized by an offensive pattern in which he runs with stolen bases and bunts.

Sendai Ikuei has conceded just two runs in five games at the Miyagi Tournament, and his pitching ability is outstanding.

In particular, ace pitchers Takahashi Yoshiki, Yuda Toma and Nita Yosho, who won last year's championship, are all powerful with the fastest straights in the 1 km range.

It is a match between schools that have won the Koshien championship.
