Big anger about his own clumsiness: Andreas Luthe after his dismissal

FC Schalke 04 won the duel between the traditional clubs in the 2nd Bundesliga against 1st FC Kaiserslautern 3-0 (1-0) and thus clinched their first win of the season. Captain Simon Terodde scored the lead with a header (13th), Kenan Karaman (70th) and Bryan Lasme (90th+2) increased after the break.

The Gelsenkirchen's success was facilitated by two sending-offs: First, it was Lautern's goalkeeper Andreas Luthe, who used the emergency brake after a concentration error in his defence against Thomas Ouwejan and saw the red card (39th). In the second half, left-back Boris Tomiak was sent off for repeated fouls (57th).

Kaiserslautern went to work surprisingly briskly in the opening minutes against the relegated Bundesliga team. After striker Ragnar Ache had been sent off, Marlon Ritter tested Schalke goalkeeper Marius Müller from 16 metres (4th). Shortly afterwards, the ball even landed in the Schalke goal, but Ache was a good meter offside before the supposed goal (8th).

Only then did Schalke gradually fight their way into the game - and promptly took the lead: After a corner from Ouwejan, Terodde cleverly broke away from opponent Kraus and headed in for his second goal of the season (13th). After the goal, S04 returned to cautious play from the secure defence, which Lautern tested again with a shot by Tobias Raschl. Again, Müller was on the spot (31st).

Eleven against nine – and Lasme lets off steam

So far, the Schalke leadership has been happy. The fact that she was no longer in danger was mainly due to a collective misfire: in the case of a long liberation strike by Müller, no Lauterer felt responsible. Ouwejan was the quickest to switch gears and ran the ball deep into the opponent's half. Luthe rushed out of his goal, but could only stop Ouwejan unfairly with a tackle and was consequently sent off by referee Harm Osmers (39th).

The game was finally decided after Tomiak received the second yellow card of the evening after a clumsy foul and also had to go down (57th). This is how Schalke's substitute striker Lasme was able to distinguish himself: First when he set up for Karaman (70th), then in injury time with the powerful finish to the final score (90th+1). The only real chance for the guests was missed by Terrence Boyd, who failed after a remarkable solo to Müller (88th).
