My favorite result of this European football week was a 2: 0. Not that of Bayern or of Schalke 04, even that of Borussia Dortmund not. It was the 2-0 victory of Red Star Belgrade over Liverpool, a result that nobody expected in the duel between Klein and Groß, who usually win big. A final result, admittedly rare in the Champions League, but still possible. No more in a Super League.
Who wants the duels of the greats in Europe and justifies this with the Super League, which should again check who played this week in the Champions League so against each other: Inter Milan against FC Barcelona, Juventus against Manchester United, SSC Naples against Paris Saint-Germain, Atlético against Borussia Dortmund. What should a Super League offer even more? Basically, it's been around for a long time, it just does not mean that. Enriched with locomotive Moscow, Young Boys Bern and Red Star Belgrade.
In his plea for the Super League yesterday, colleague Christian Helms introduced the European idea. A sympathetic, a nice thought. But what could be more European as a guest appearance by Shakhtar Donetsk at Manchester City, a trip from Real Madrid to Viktoria Pilsen and an away game from Bruges in Monaco? I would not mind if FC Bayern are at the top of the Bundesliga in the next five years. Anyway, my goodwill belongs to a club that, on good days, is more interested in Leipzig and Leverkusen, in bad ones in Hertha, Frankfurt and Augsburg. So it will go to most football fans in Germany with their clubs. Who is currently interested in Hamburg (and also in the long term) the Super League?
The super-clubs have destroyed a lot of titles with their money power. That is undisputed. And it would be naive to deny this completely. It is just a just punishment for them to continue to play against Schalke, Chievo and Guingamp.
