Congestion at evacuation centers Operate a system that can be checked on smartphones Tokyo Tama September 1, 18:26

To prevent people from becoming crowded at evacuation centers, Tama City, Tokyo has created a system that allows users to check the status of congestion at evacuation centers on a smartphone map, and has begun operating it since last month.

In Tama City, last year Typhoon No. 19 opened 10 shelters, but there were 3 evacuees, but in many places, more than 1300 people were concentrated, so we had to move to another evacuation center. Some people were forced to move.

For this reason, Tama City, in collaboration with an IT company in Tokyo, has developed a system that allows citizens to confirm the congestion status of evacuation centers on a smartphone or PC map and started operation from the 24th of last month.

In the system, there are three levels of buttons in the shelter: "empty", "slightly crowded" and "full", and when the staff at the shelter selects it, the situation is reflected on the map.

On the 19th of last month, evacuation center operation training using this system was also conducted, and staff members were checking the procedure of the system.

``If young people who can use smartphones can use the system to go to vacant shelters, evacuation to nearby evacuation centers for elderly people who do not have smartphones We expect that we will be able to reduce the number of cases where we cannot enter the shelter because we will receive it.”
