President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday appointed Gabriel Attal, 34, to Matignon, becoming the youngest prime minister in the history of the Republic and the first openly gay. The young and popular Minister of National Education will succeed Elisabeth Borne, who was forced to resign on Monday after twenty months at the head of the government.

In a statement, the Elysée confirmed that the head of state has instructed Gabriel Attal "to form a government". For his part, the newly promoted assured that he will "always" remain at the side of the teaching world, after his six-month stint at the Ministry of Education and a brief but remarkable mandate.
