At least one person has been killed and four others injured in a Russian attack on the train station in the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson, according to the Ukrainian government. The city was "massively bombed" on Tuesday evening, when about 140 civilians waited at the station for the departure of a train to take them out of the city to safety, Interior Minister Igor Klymenko said on the online service Telegram.

One policeman was killed, two civilians and two policemen were injured by shrapnel. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said numerous civilians were at the station at the time of the attack. All emergency services are in action.

According to the Ukrainian railway company Ukrzaliznytsia, the station and the evacuation train were damaged. However, the railway line is still passable.

Kherson is located on the Dnieper River and has been a frequent target of Russian attacks since the city was recaptured by Ukrainian troops in November 2022 after months of Russian occupation.
