The third time is the charm. The President of the Supreme Court,Francisco Marín Castán, received on Thursday the Minister of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Courts, Félix Bolaños, to whom he asked the Government to use all the means at its disposal to stop the attacks on the Judiciary.

The meeting, which was initially suspended by the president of the Supreme Court after the attacks of the spokesperson of Junts on judges of this body with the initial silence of the PSOE and later for reasons of the minister's agenda, is part of the round of institutional contacts that Bolaños has been carrying out since he assumed the portfolio of Justice.

During the meeting, Marín Castán conveyed to the minister "the need for the Government to do its part with all the means at its disposal" so that the attacks on the Judiciary – such as those seen in recent weeks in both Congress and the Senate – cease; At the same time, he has welcomed the demonstrations in defense of the Judicial Career made by Bolaños in recent days.

According to legal sources, Francisco Marín has also told the minister that, in the climate of tension created by these attacks, it does not facilitate progress towards the necessary agreements for the "essential and unpostponable" renewal of the General Council of the Judiciary.

For their part, government sources report that Bolaños has expressed to Marín the need to guarantee the respect and independence of judges and magistrates and to achieve as soon as possible the renewal of the General Council of the Judiciary, which "is not an option but an obligation that cannot be postponed and must be urgently fulfilled."
