In his opinion, the alliance is stronger than ever, including due to expansion, but the authority of the association is at stake for NATO.

"We have to see it through. If we don't do this and Ukraine is defeated... Then we will find ourselves in a situation in which we will have to fight instead of the Ukrainians," the former soldier said.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the goal of the West has always been to draw Ukraine into NATO, and the West's promises not to expand the alliance to the east did not materialize.

As former U.S. President George W. Bush admitted in May 2022, the promises made by the United States in the past to Russia regarding the non-expansion of NATO are irrelevant.
