The end-of-year festivities are fast approaching and, in Rungis, the ballet of pallets is accelerating. But what are the essentials? Europe 1 went there and offers you some ideas to brighten up your taste buds on New Year's Eve.

Eight days before the end of the year celebrations, Europe 1 went to the fruit and vegetable pavilion of the Rungis market. With just a few days to go before the holidays, the ballet of palettes is picking up speed, especially at Butet, a mushroom specialist.

In a black fridge, Fatima Guillou, the general manager, protects one of the stars of New Year's Eve. "The truffle remains unquestionably the flagship product. Plus, the prices are a little more affordable," she explains. Count on more than 80 euros for 50 grams.

Exotic fruits for dessert

But for smaller budgets, don't panic, you can fall back on wild mushrooms. "We make this product in small trays, where we can control our budget. There you have yellow chanterelle, grey chanterelle, shiitake, sheep's foot and a little parsley."

For dessert, say goodbye to the yule log, bet instead on exotic fruits: pineapple, mango and why not lychee. "The lychee from Reunion Island is the star product of the holidays," smiles Samir, a sales representative at Blampin Fruits. "We travel, the sugar, the perfume. It's very juicy, there's almost no acidity." A lychee a little more expensive than last year because the cost of transport from the Indian Ocean has exploded.
