This is stated on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"Dubious from a legal point of view and obviously politicized decisions are being made: on the start of pre-accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova, which not only do not meet, but directly contradict the elementary criteria of the EU," the statement said.

The ministry added that the population of European countries, which is driven into difficult socio-economic conditions, will pay the high price of the consequences of such a decision.

On December 14, the head of the European Council, Charles Michel, said that European leaders had decided to start negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova on joining the European Union.

The press secretary of the Russian leader, Dmitry Peskov, said that negotiations on the accession of Ukraine and Moldova to the European Union could last for decades.
