On Saturday afternoon, this year's Christmas lights were inaugurated in central Malmö and it will be lit until after the New Year.
"We're trying to create an environment where people want to be outside even in the dark and in the winter," says Åsa Gullstrand, lighting designer in Malmö Municipality.
A new feature is six illuminated benches and a mailbox for Santa. The new lights in the trees are more energy-efficient but significantly more expensive than the previous ones.
"We have invested in new light sources for the Christmas trees, where we have looked at trying to have lighting that still has a good quality. The people of Malmö won't see any difference, but we save a lot of energy this way," says Åsa Gullstrand
