The European Commission officially warns that it will monitor "carefully, independently and objectively" whether the amnesty is legal

The European Commissioner for Justice, Didier Reynders, has officially announced to the European Parliament that the European Commission is studying the Amnesty Law "carefully, independently and objectively" to ensure that it complies with "European law".

"The European Commission will be following this issue very closely. Also in the context of the preparation of the 2024 Rule of Law Report," Reynders emphasized, who has criticized Spain for the inaction from all areas for the renewal of the Judiciary or the coincidence of the mandates of the Attorney General of the State with those of the Government itself.

Regarding the Catalan independence process, Reynders stressed that Catalonia "continues to be an internal issue, which will have to be resolved according to its constitutional order".
