The Israeli occupation army announced that one of its fighter jets intercepted a cruise missile, fired towards the city of Eilat.

Earlier on Wednesday evening, sirens sounded in Eilat, on the Red Sea coast, after a drone was suspected of infiltrating.

"Following the report regarding the infiltration of an enemy aircraft in the area of the Red Sea city of Eilat in the south of the country, an Israeli Air Force fighter jet successfully intercepted a cruise missile launched towards Israel," the army said in a statement.

"The threat did not penetrate the territory of Israel," the statement said.

The Israeli military did not specify where the rocket was launched, but the Ansar Allah group (Houthis) in Yemen had previously announced in recent weeks the launch of ballistic missiles and drones towards Eilat, in response to the Israeli massacres in the Gaza Strip.

The Eilat municipality said in a statement that after the alert activated in the city, security officials in the area were informed that a successful interception operation had been carried out and there was no air threat.

The attack comes after the Houthis announced on Monday that they had seized the Galaxy Leader, owned by an Israeli businessman, and detained it along with its 25-man international crew a day earlier.

Houthi warning

In a related context, the Yemeni naval forces said they will continue to carry out their military operations "against the ships and interests of the Israeli enemy until its aggression on Gaza stops and its crimes against the Palestinian people cease."

It reiterated that it targets "Israeli-flagged vessels, operated by Israeli companies or owned by Israeli persons." In a statement, it warned "all companies and traders against shipping their goods and interests with Israeli ships or dealing with them."

Yemen's Houthi navy said any military piece protecting Israeli ships would be a legitimate target for their operations.
