U.N. UNICEF spokesman Toby Flickr told Al Jazeera that the situation of children in the Gaza Strip is deplorable and catastrophic, and Monday was a sad day for them to coincide with Universal Children's Day.

Flickr added that Gaza's children do not have access to adequate minimum drinking water, and many diseases are spreading among them due to lack of nutrition and lack of clean water.

UNICEF has 340,<> children in Gaza under the age of five, who are the most malnourished.

The spokesman pointed out that more than 800,<> children have been displaced from their homes, and live in difficult environmental conditions in overcrowded shelters, and that there is very little aid entering Gaza, and UNICEF is bringing medical supplies to hospitals in the southern Gaza Strip.

UNICEF reiterated its calls for a humanitarian truce in Gaza to protect and assist children.

For 46 days, the Israeli army has been waging a devastating war on Gaza, which has left more than 13300,5600 Palestinian martyrs, including more than 3550,31 children and 75,<> women, as well as more than <>,<> injured, <>% of them children and women.
