Southern Lebanon witnesses military escalation between Hezbollah and Israel (Reuters)

Hezbollah announced the targeting of Israeli military sites on Monday with "Burkane" missiles and swooping planes, while the Israeli Army Radio revealed that a military base was severely damaged, as a result of fire from the Lebanese side.

On the other hand, the Lebanese agency reported that the outskirts of the towns of "Yarin Dahra" and "Tayr Harfa" were subjected to Israeli artillery shelling, at noon hours on Monday.

Hezbollah said it had targeted with rockets and artillery shells an Israeli infantry gathering in the Tayhat triangle, and that it had achieved direct hits.

According to Al Jazeera's correspondent, sirens sounded in the eastern sector of the Israeli border with Lebanon, confirming that 4 rockets landed in the vicinity of the settlement of Kiryat Shmona.

Hezbollah said in another statement published by the Lebanese official news agency that its fighters targeted with appropriate weapons an Israeli infantry force on Karantina Hill near the border post of Hadab Yarun.

In turn, the Israeli Army Radio said on Monday that serious damage was caused to a military base in the north, as a result of gunfire from the Lebanese side, without mentioning the name of the base.

This followed the announcement by the Lebanese Hezbollah that it had targeted the Biranit barracks, the headquarters of the Israeli 91st Division.

Hezbollah said that it targeted the command center of the 91st Division of the occupation army in the Israeli Barracks of Branet with 4 high-caliber volcano rockets in two batches, and also targeted the Israeli Zebdin barracks in the occupied Lebanese Shab'a farms, and achieved direct hits.

Swooping planes

In a related context, Hezbollah's Al-Manar TV said that "swooping" drones launched from southern Lebanon towards the occupation sites in northern occupied Palestine.

It added that the radars of the occupation army did not detect the attacking aircraft launched by Hizbullah;

On the other hand, the Israeli Army Radio confirmed that booby-trapped drones penetrated (the border) from Lebanon and fell in open areas, without specifying the locations of their fall, stressing that the Israeli army responded to the sources of fire with artillery.

Israel's Channel 12 reported that the army intercepted 2 to 3 explosive drones (booby-trapped) during the day, noting that the army detected 25 rockets fired from Lebanon towards several border areas.

Earlier today, Hezbollah announced that its military operations on the southern Lebanese border had resulted in 1523,<> Israeli casualties since Oct. <>.

Hezbollah did not say how it was able to identify the figure, while Israel has yet to comment on it.

Targeting a vice house

In southern Lebanon, the Lebanese news agency said today that Israel targeted the home of Lebanese MP Qabalan Qabalan in southern Lebanon, a member of the Amal Movement led by Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, which is close to Hezbollah.

The agency reported that Israeli artillery targeted the house of a member of the Presidency of the Amal Movement, MP Qabalan Qabalan, in the village of Mays al-Jabal (south), without indicating any human damage.

The MP did not issue any statement about this incident until 14:00 GMT, and Israel did not comment until the same hour, on the Lebanese statement.

On Sunday, Israel bombed several areas and towns in southern Lebanon, including Labouneh in Naqoura and the outskirts of Tair Harfa, Maroun al-Ras and al-Jabain towards the town of al-Dhaira in the western sector, while Hezbollah targeted Israeli military sites.

On a daily basis since the eighth of last October, Lebanon's southern border has witnessed intermittent mutual bombardment between the Israeli army on the one hand, and Hezbollah and Palestinian factions in Lebanon on the other, leaving dead and wounded on both sides.

For the 45th consecutive day, Israel continues to wage a devastating war on Gaza, leaving more than 13,5500 Palestinian martyrs, including more than 3500,30 children and <>,<> women, as well as more than <>,<> injured.
