The Israeli occupation insists, through its media and a number of its officials, to evoke the scene of the 1948 Nakba in their dealing with scenes of the displacement of Palestinians from the north to the south of the Gaza Strip, which provoked different reactions on social media.

The displacement of thousands of Palestinians from the north to the south of the Gaza Strip has become frequent under the continuous brutal Israeli bombardment, and the targeting of civilians by the occupation soldiers participating in the ground operation, in light of the tragic conditions of the displaced as well as tens of thousands of those who are clinging to remain in the north of the Gaza Strip and Gaza City.

Over the past few days, videos have circulated on social media showing hundreds of Gazans heading south, raising their hands and waving white flags in a cruel journey on foot for long distances and longer hours.

Israeli army spokesman Avichai Adraee publishes daily communiqués asking the residents of northern Gaza to continue their displacement towards the south, the latest of which reads: "The IDF informs you of the need to evacuate your areas of residence urgently for your safety."

But what Adraee claims is a safe road has been bombed several times, and southern areas of the Gaza Strip, such as Khan Younis and the Rafah refugee camp, have been repeatedly attacked by Israeli forces, killing hundreds of people and injuring them.

Israeli Agriculture Minister Avi Dichter described the exodus of residents to the southern Gaza Strip as the "2023 Gaza Nakba," reinforcing the beliefs and fears of many Palestinians – who were forced to leave their homes – that they would not be allowed to return as happened to their predecessors in the 1948 war.

Planted in Gaza

Shabakat program (14/11/2023) monitored part of the interaction of Arab tweeters with the Israeli insistence on evoking the scene of the 1948 Nakba, including what Taghreed wrote, "This so-called Gaza Nakba 2023 opened the basis of the Palestinian cause file again worldwide."

While Ahmed Obeida wrote, "The Nakba this time is your catastrophe and the tents of your settlers testify to this, while the people of Gaza are on their land striving," Adel tweeted, "In the first Nakba, there were no young people resisting the barbaric occupation, but today there are Palestinian youth who believe in their right. He defends him."

"Residents were forcibly displaced after cutting off water and fuel and bombing hospitals in order to protect children and the elderly from the barbarism of cowards, while the resistance is planted in the ground waiting for any coward to enter until it is punished and paid for his crime," Mohammed said.

Returning to Israeli officials' statements, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich goes beyond just calling on Gazans to be internally displaced, saying, "The voluntary migration of Gaza Arabs to the countries of the world is the right humanitarian solution."

But the comments angered Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who warned his ministers and officials: "You should not say anything if you do not know the impact. Every word counts in terms of Israel's media position in the world."
