Already in the spring, enough names had been collected for the municipality to take up the issue of a referendum. But before they were to be submitted, the municipal executive board decided to pause a number of major construction projects in Åredalen due to a lack of capacity in the water and sewage network.

Twelve projects were paused, but not the Rödkulle project.

The decisions were appealed to the Administrative Court, but the appeals have been rejected. That is why the question of a referendum is on the table again.

"We will submit the petitions to the municipality," says Johan Ahlgren, one of the initiators of the petition. He is also a member of Åre's community planning committee for the Green Party.
