Foreign Minister Kamikawa held a telephone conversation with the foreign ministers of Egypt and Jordan regarding the Israeli-Palestinian situation, explained the contents of the statement compiled at the G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting last week, and confirmed that they would work together to suspend hostilities and calm the situation.

Foreign Minister Kamikawa, who is visiting San Francisco in the United States to attend the APEC = Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Meeting, held telephone talks with Foreign Minister Shukri of Egypt and Foreign Minister Safadi of Jordan in the early morning of May 15, Japan time.

In this context, Minister Kamikawa explained that at the G7 = Foreign Ministers' Meeting of the Group of Seven major countries held in Tokyo last week, a joint statement was issued that included support for a humanitarian cessation of hostilities in order to address the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.

He also stated that it is necessary to take all possible measures to prevent civilian casualties, and confirmed that he and his foreign ministers will work together to suspend the fighting and de-escalate the situation.

He also expressed his gratitude to Foreign Minister Shukri of Egypt for his support during the evacuation of Japan nationals and their families from the Gaza Strip.
