More than 400 U.S. political officials have sent a letter to President Joe Biden protesting his administration's policy toward Israel and support for attacks on the Gaza Strip.

In the letter, the officials demanded an urgent ceasefire in Gaza, a call to de-escalate the current conflict by ensuring the immediate release of detained Israeli and Palestinian "hostages," and the delivery of adequate humanitarian aid through the restoration of water, fuel, electricity and other basic services in the Strip.

According to polls, a majority of Americans support a ceasefire in Gaza, the letter said, adding that they do not want to drag their country's military into another costly and useless war in the Middle East.

The New York Times quoted two officials who participated in the preparation of the letter as saying that the majority of the signatories are politicians of different beliefs working in 40 different government institutions, and confirmed that the signatories of the letter played a major role in Biden's election to the presidency.

The United States is witnessing a popular decline in support of unlimited American support for Israel in its war on the Gaza Strip, and a number of demonstrations have taken place to demand a ceasefire, the lifting of the siege on Gaza, and an end to the Israeli occupation.
