A White House adviser announced on Sunday the evacuation of more than 300 Americans or permanent US residents and their family members from the Gaza Strip through the Rafah crossing, after intensive negotiations with all parties involved in the Israeli war on Gaza.

Jonathan Viner, a national security adviser, said in an interview with CBS that the United States believes there are still a number of Americans inside Gaza.

Viner added that Americans in Gaza are a key priority, stressing that we will continue to work so that every American who wants to leave the Strip can do so.

The Rafah crossing was opened last Wednesday, allowing a number of injured Palestinians to leave for treatment in Egypt, in addition to dual nationals.

The Gaza Strip government has suspended the evacuation of foreigners and dual nationals to Egypt over Israel's refusal to transfer wounded Palestinians to Egyptian hospitals, an official source at the crossings authority told AFP on Saturday.

Israel's refusal to evacuate wounded Palestinians came on the grounds that a third of the list of wounded in need of evacuation belonged to Hamas fighters, according to a White House official.

The Ministry of Health in Gaza stated today that the wounded are unable to reach the Rafah crossing as a result of Israel's continued targeting of ambulances, and the occupation bombed the day before yesterday ambulances that were transporting injured people towards the crossing, which led to their death.
