The accusations surrounding the financing of a private party now apparently have political consequences for Mike Mohring: The former head of the Thuringian CDU is to give up his post as chairman of the Weimarer Land district association. This was announced by the district association at the weekend. At the same time, the statement stated that the party had not suffered any financial loss.

Why Mohring has to vacate his post remained open in the statement. It only said that the district association wanted to "set an example for the work of the future district executive of the CDU Weimarer Land". For the succession, the board has proposed District Administrator Christiane Schmidt-Rose. A district party congress is scheduled for November 4.

The allegations revolve around the question of whether costs for the private celebration were paid by the Weimarer Land district association. In the statement of the district executive on Saturday, it says: "There was no participation in payments of the CDU to third parties by the district chairman Mike Mohring." In the letter, the district board thanked Mohring for his many years of work as chairman.

The CDU state association had already decided before the meeting of the district association on Saturday to set up a commission to clarify the allegations. "From our point of view, there is no need for action for the work of a commission of the state association of the CDU Thuringia," says the statement of the district association board.

When the allegations arose, Mohring had stated that he also wanted to pay for the private event himself. "The invoices prepared for the event were certainly not addressed in good faith to my citizens' office in Bad Berka, but to the CDU in the Weimar region in Apolda," Mohring said at the time. In the meantime, he has paid all the bills.
