After that, 300,000 litres of oil contained in tanks that are not damaged will also be emptied before the vessel is transported away from the shoal next week.

It was last Sunday, October 22, that the passenger ferry ran aground in Hanö Bay in Blekinge on its way from Trelleborg to Karlshamn.

Double groundings led to extensive oil spills that reached the coastal strip inside the accident site on the same day. Since then, extensive clean-up work has been underway in the area.

So far, over 25,000 litres of oil have been extracted by the Coast Guard in cooperation with the municipality and county administrative board and with the backing of the Home Guard.
