As the department emphasized, GOST was revised in order to expand the range of Russian traditional drinks based on natural raw materials, as well as in connection with the need to develop requirements for them.

The All-Russian Research Institute of Food Biotechnology, on the basis of which the standard was prepared, told RT that its introduction will contribute, among other things, to increasing the competitiveness of products and preserving their traditional types, as well as solving the problem of import substitution.

Thus, the new edition of the standard provides for the use of both rectified ethyl alcohol and grain distillates or their mixture as the main type of raw material, the experts added.

Thanks to such changes, the range in this category will be expanded due to drinks based on grain distillates, which are variations of historically developed recipes that have recently become very popular, the organization said.

In addition, the new edition of the national standard clarifies the terms and technical requirements for all groups of beverages.

In turn, Vadim Drobiz, director of the Center for Research of Federal and Regional Alcohol Markets (CIFRA), added in an interview with RT that the state is now paying attention to internal development, including the development of national Russian drinks.

"We are developing domestic tourism, this is inevitable," the RT interlocutor concluded.

Earlier, the Federal Service for Alcohol Regulation and Rosstat spoke about the situation with alcohol consumption in Russia.
