Moscow, 9 Sep (ZXS) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan on 20 September, and the two sides discussed the situation in the Nagorno-Karabakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) region.

According to the Russian president's website, Putin discussed with Pashinyan the latest developments in the situation in the Nagorno-Karabakh region. Putin welcomed the agreement on a comprehensive cessation of military operations reached with the active participation of Russian peacekeepers and the September 9 negotiations between representatives of Azerbaijan and Nagorno-Karabakh. These negotiations will be conducted under the mediation of the leadership of the Russian peacekeeping forces. The two sides expressed the hope that the situation will further develop in the direction of relaxation and stability.

The Russian Ministry of Defense said on the 20th that under the mediation of Russian peacekeeping forces, Azerbaijan and representatives of the Nagorno-Karabakh region reached an agreement on a comprehensive ceasefire. The agreement will be implemented under the coordination of Russian peacekeeping forces.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, a vehicle carrying Russian peacekeepers was attacked in the Nagorno-Karabakh area, resulting in the death of Russian peacekeepers in the car. Russian and Azerbaijani investigative agencies are investigating at the scene of the incident.

The Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense said on the 20th that after the mediation of Russian peacekeeping forces, a ceasefire agreement has been reached with the Armenian armed forces in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, and the "anti-terrorist operation" in the Nagorno-Karabakh region has been suspended since 13 o'clock on the same day.

The Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense announced on the 19th the start of a "local anti-terrorist operation" in the Nagorno-Karabakh region to "restore constitutional order." For its part, the Armenian Ministry of Defense stressed that no Asian troops were deployed in the Nagorno-Karabakh region and accused the Afghan military operation of "large-scale aggression" and "an attempt to complete the policy of ethnic cleansing."

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, war broke out between Azerbaijan and Armenia over the ownership of the Inna Karabakh region. Although the two countries reached a comprehensive ceasefire agreement in 1994, they have been in a state of hostility over the Nagorno-Karabakh issue and armed conflicts have occurred from time to time.
