Minister Kamikawa held a telephone talk with U.S. Secretary of State Blinken on the evening of November 14, and shared the view that Japan and the United States will continue to work closely together on the challenges facing the international community.

The telephone talk took place shortly after 14 p.m. on the 9th, Japan time.

At the outset, Minister Kamikawa delivered his inaugural address and stated, "I would like to further strengthen the Japan-U.S. Alliance," while Secretary of State Blinken conveyed his congratulations.

Minister Kamikawa stated, "As the foundation of the international order is shaken, Japan is determined to continue to fulfill its role as the chair of the G7 = seven major countries in order to maintain and strengthen a free and open international order based on the rule of law."

The two ministers shared the view that the two countries will continue to work closely together on issues facing the international community, such as Russia's invasion of Ukraine, responses to various issues surrounding China, and North Korea's nuclear and missile development and the abductions issue.

They also confirmed that they will hold their first face-to-face meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly to be held in New York next week.

Later, Minister Kamikawa told reporters, "The Japan-U.S. alliance is the linchpin of Japan's diplomacy and security. It was an important step in building trust with Secretary Blinken."
