Our selection of the best wireless keyboards

Logitech MX Mechanical, simply the best

This model brings together everything we are looking for in a keyboard. A refined design that plays with gray and black to better help us identify the keys. It is even backlit for even more efficient and comfortable use in low-light situations. It displays dimensions of 43.33 x 13.15 cm and especially a thickness of only 0.7 cm at its base and 2.61 cm at the highest! Logitech uses mechanical keys here, the one you can find on gaming keyboards. They offer a clear strike, with a typing stroke that is short enough to chain the supports very very quickly and no command will be forgotten. The spacing between the keys is comfortable and each has a slightly concave surface to better grip the fingers. It can be used wirelessly (Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz radio technology with Logitech's Unify USB module), and benefits from a connection that is both secure and ultra-fast. Three buttons switch from a PC to Mac to a tablet or smart TV with a single tap. In summary, it is for us the best keyboard of the moment, especially since the noise pollution remains very controlled for a mechanical keyboard. Use with a good Logitech mouse, including the MX Master 3.

Microsoft Surface Keyboard, the most minimalist

The Microsoft Surface Keyboard is surely the thinnest and most stylish wireless keyboard. Microsoft plays the minimalism card here with a product with a sleek and beautifully sophisticated design at the same time. It has dimensions of 42.09 x 11.26 x 1.93 cm and benefits from an extremely careful design with materials as strong as light, such as its aluminum chassis. Its finesse comes from the choice of scissor keys that offer a short typing stroke and a very very reduced noise pollution. We also benefit from a very nice key spacing that avoids typing errors that are generally common with such a thin keyboard. These keys benefit from a textured surface that offers perfect finger grip and an exceptionally delicate touch. Finally, connectivity is via Bluetooth, which allows you to use this keyboard on all devices that can accept it.

Logitech MX Keys PLUS, the most versatile

If the Logitech MX Mechanical sounds too loud or too firm, then the Logitech MX Keys is the perfect alternative. This product of 43 x 13.2 x 2.1 cm thick (0.7 cm at the bottom of the keyboard) offers a controlled template. It benefits from a neat design with a good quality plastic chassis and which displays some metallic touches of the most beautiful effect. Only regret, the inclination is fixed, but the presence of a very comfortable wrist rest will allow us to forgive this point. The keys are chiclet type (technology used on the majority of laptops), are ergonomic and above all allow you to enjoy an almost silent typing, or even really silent, if you have a soft typing. Like the MX, this keyboard features wireless transmission technology, in addition to Bluetooth, and can be used with three devices at once.

Apple Magic Keyboard, the most... Apple

In the Apple universe, the choice of Apple's Magic Keyboard is not only an ease and an aesthetic necessity. Indeed, in addition to being studied to be in total stylistic harmony with Apple computers, it is organically linked to macOS, allowing to make the most of the functions offered by the operating system. However, these are not its only qualities, with keys that benefit from a very comfortable spacing and a design that allows a sure typing. Its aluminum chassis withstands the harshest strikes, as well as the most delicate. A product designed to last and that integrates Touch ID technology to better enjoy your computers without fear of someone taking the hand during an absence.

Cherry KW 9100 Slim, Best value for money

This keyboard is as compact and thin (44 x 13 x 1.5 cm) as it displays a more than sober design. The quality of manufacture is at the rendezvous: solidity and quality go hand in hand with low price. If this keyboard is so thin, it is because it uses membrane key technology. In general, the latter gives a soft strike and not always very accurate. Cherry therefore achieves here a great technological feat with an ultra-short strike that proves firmer than average and with a gentle resistance that ensures the end of the strike. The latter is completely silent and almost as fast as with a scissor or mechanical keypad keyboard. We also appreciate the comfortable key spacing and a companion app that allows you to create specific keyboard shortcuts, which isn't always the case in this price range.

How does a wireless keyboard work?

A wireless keyboard is simply a product that is added a wireless transmission module. There are two technologies, the most common being Bluetooth. This universal format is easy to implement and offers good performance in office automation, but much less in gaming. In addition, Bluetooth is not the most secure protocol. Many manufacturers offer a radio connection in 2.4 GHz. The latter is faster and brands like Logitech take advantage of this to optimize reaction times and improve safety. For example, by preventing malandrins from intercepting your wireless signal, and reading everything you type on its screen. Be careful, this usually requires using a USB module that will link with the keyboard. Wireless keyboards also bring better comfort by getting rid of cables, but also by offering multi connection. A single keyboard on your desktop can then connect to several computers, see a tablet, an internet box, a game console and even a SmartTV.

How to choose a wireless keyboard?

A good wireless keyboard should offer the same qualities as a conventional keyboard. Thus, it should be ergonomic with variable tilt, wrist rest, keys with good spacing, clear and comfortable typing. Adding wireless transmission technology doesn't just free you up cables. Thus, the keyboards are slightly weighed down by the radio module and the battery. The latter can take the form of a battery, but prefer products with battery or opt for rechargeable batteries. The autonomy is difficult to estimate, but on average you are quiet for 3 to 6 months at least with quality products. If you always stay in front of your desk, the weight has little impact. But if you go from your desk to the living room through your balcony to work, then a keyboard with a weight of less than 500 g or better 400 g is preferred. Especially if you use it on your thighs for example.
