The Israeli military said Sunday that a suspect threw a Molotov cocktail from Lebanon towards the border fence with Israel.

"A suspect approached the border fence in the Metulla area on the Lebanese border a short while ago and threw a Molotov cocktail at the fence," the army said in a statement.

He added that the incident caused minor damage to the sensor cable of one of the water carriers in the fence area.

Before the army's statement, Yedioth Ahronoth reported that a Hezbollah operative threw a Molotov cocktail on the Israeli side in the area of the Israel-Lebanon border, causing no casualties.

The newspaper added that the Israeli military responded with fire in the air as a warning.

Israel's state broadcaster and privately owned Channel 12 confirmed the incident took place on the border with Lebanon, but did not indicate any damage from the Molotov cocktail.

There was no immediate comment from Hezbollah on the incident.

On Tuesday, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant warned Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah against "making any mistake," threatening to return Lebanon to the Stone Age in the event of an escalation or conflict.

On July 12, 2006, Israel launched a 33-day war on Lebanon after Hezbollah captured three soldiers, after which the Security Council passed Resolution 3 halting hostilities and strengthening the United Nations peacekeeping force (UNIFIL) in southern Lebanon.
