According to CNN Turk, two grain silos were damaged in the incident, which took place at 13.40 pm Swedish time. Hurriyet said at least 10 people were injured, two of them seriously, citing the region's governor.

According to him, the explosion occurred when a ship in the port was about to transfer grain to one of the silos. The exact circumstances of the incident are still unclear, but according to Turkish authorities, the explosion may have been caused by high pressure levels.

"We thought it was an earthquake, then we knew it was an explosion," the city's mayor told CNN Turk.

"There are about 40 silos here and two of them exploded.
