The actress Sandra Bullock (59) is living one of the hardest moments of her life: her partner the photographer Bryan Randall died on August 5 at age 57 as a result of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a disease she had kept secret.

This has been confirmed by relatives of the photographer in a statement. "It is with great sadness that we share that on August 5, Bryan Randall passed away peacefully after a three-year battle with ALS," reads the first part of the statement that his "beloved family" has sent to People.

"Bryan preferred to keep his path with ALS private and those of us who cared for him did everything we could to honor his request." The relatives of Bullock's partner have asked for "privacy to cry and assume the impossibility of saying goodbye" and have also thanked the health staff who have helped them during the process: "We are immensely grateful to the tireless doctors who navigated the landscape of this disease with us and to the amazing nurses who became our roommates, often sacrificing their own families to be with ours."

Thus, the words of a year ago of the Oscar winner for The Blind Side who announced that she was retiring from the cinema temporarily to focus on her family are especially relevant. Without giving clues about the delicate situation she was experiencing, Bullock explained that she wanted to be "in the place that makes me happiest" after being completely dedicated to work. "I just want to be 24/7 with my kids and family. That's where I'm going to be for a while," he said.

Bullock and Randall met in 2015 by chance when the protagonist of Gravity hired him to immortalize her son's birthday. Together they formed a large family with actress Louis and Laila's two sons and the photographer's daughter, Skylar. A family that Bullock defined as "the best thing I've ever had."
