In Uppsala District Court, hearings were held today for the five people, four of whom are brothers, who were detained on suspicion of murdering a man who was found dead in Hjälstaviken on April 1 this year.

The detentions were renegotiated because they have now been in prison for three months, which is the time limit for suspects under the age of 18, which four of the suspects are.

Three of the brothers, two 16-year-olds and a 17-year-old, and a 15-year-old girl were released. The 18-year-old brother was taken into custody later in the afternoon.

"The evidence has been strengthened"

Prosecutor Moa Blomqvist says it is unfortunate that Uppsala District Court decided to release four of the five teenagers.

"My assessment is that the evidence and suspicions have been strengthened against everyone involved," says Moa Blomqvist.

"Now they can talk together"

Moa Blomqvist appealed all of the minors' detention decisions to the Court of Appeal. She believes that their release complicates the investigation.

"We were not expecting this decision. We have a murder, a serious crime, which is not easy to investigate. Now they can talk together and decide on a common story.

After an appeal, the Court of Appeal decided later on Wednesday that the two younger teenagers should be remanded in custody again, according to P4 Uppland.

Charges are scheduled for August 8.
