She is little known today, however, she had an essential role at the court of her younger brother, King François 1st. While the latter ascended the throne of France, in 1515, Marguerite d'Angoulême (1492-1549) proved to be an outstanding diplomat. Soon, it was she who negotiated the release of the king, who had been a prisoner in Spain since the Battle of Pavia. A fine scholar and a great reader, Marguerite d'Angoulême also marked the literary history of her time by signing several books including L'Heptaméron, a collection of short stories with accents of modernity. In the midst of the Reformation, the one who became Queen of Navarre led a reflection on the evolution of religion. Virginie Girod takes you to meet a great lady of the Renaissance, who was nicknamed "the pearl of the Valois".
