Northeastern U.S. and Canada Affected by Massive Flooding

North America is still plagued by flooding that has affected the New England region since Sunday and in particular the state of Vermont, in the northeastern United States. The death toll is at least one person. The equivalent of two months of rain fell in just two days. Water levels exceeded those recorded after Storm Irene in 2011.

A woman swept away by the waters

The neighboring state of New York has not been spared. A 35-year-old woman was swept away by flooding in the Hudson Valley. The situation remains tense, rains could fall as early as Thursday according to the estimates of the authorities. New York Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul called on people to "mobilize to fight the ravages of climate change, because once again, these are unprecedented phenomena that continue to strike us again and again."

Finally, further north, there are the same images of broken roads, devastated landscapes. Canada is also crossed by torrential rains, 50,000 homes were still without electricity last night in the province of Quebec. More than a thousand people had to be evacuated, cultural events were cancelled. This morning, all eyes are on the Toronto area, which is also threatened by the weather.
