Russian authorities say a military mobilization official has been killed in the southwestern city of Krasnodar, amid the ongoing recruitment campaign to fight in Ukraine.

The Commission of Inquiry said in a statement that the body of the 42-year-old man was found on Monday morning "with gunshot wounds" on a street in Krasnodar, which is home to about a million people.

The committee added that the dead man was the deputy city municipality in charge of "mobilization operations" in the army in Krasnodar, and said investigators were working to identify the perpetrator and the motive for the crime.

Russia's TASS news agency quoted police sources as Stanislav Reitsky.

On Telegram, the former mayor of Krasnodar and Russian deputy Yevgeny Pervich explained that Ryitsky served in the Russian Navy, where he commanded in particular the submarine "Krasnodar".

Ukrainian intelligence said Ryitsky was killed on Monday morning by seven bullets while exercising in a city park, adding that the submarine "Krasnodar" was involved in missile attacks on Ukraine.

Since April, the Russian military has been carrying out a massive military mobilization, repeatedly posting advertisements to motivate it to join its ranks with the promise of large salaries and social benefits.

The campaign aims to reconstitute forces on the Ukrainian front, without resorting to new mobilization, a measure taken by the Kremlin last September.
