Electoral register in the DRC: the opponent Martin Fayulu and his party "will not file a candidacy"

During a highly anticipated press conference, Congolese opponent Martin Fayulu said Wednesday (July 12th) that "this time, it will not pass", after the refusal of the Independent National Electoral Commission to review the electoral register. The opponent reiterates that he and his party "will not submit candidacy files", saying he has "the obligation to defeat any form of dictatorship".

The rejection brandished by the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) is for Martin Fayulu the "provocation too many": if the opponent refuses to talk about boycott, he and his coalition do not intend to run. He estimates that out of nearly 44 million voters, at least 10 million are fictitious names.

«

In the absence of a reliable file audited by a reputable independent body, in the presence of stakeholder delegates, we will not submit our candidacy files, he announced at his party's press conference. We refuse to whitewash the fraud and therefore to accompany Mr. [Congolese President] Felix Tshisekedi and his sacred union in a new electoral forfeiture.

 »

Martin Fayulu accuses the CENI of wanting to use the people "as a jump seat to sell an illusion of democracy" and turns to the street: "We will undertake a mobilization campaign to prepare the people for the use of Article 64: we have the obligation to defeat any form of dictatorship wherever it comes from. We must therefore mobilize to prevent the electoral travesty that is being prepared from taking place.

 »

The CENI has not moved one iota and qualifies the positions of the opposition as illogical.

Very irritated by the CENI and the camp in power, Martin Fayulu recalls that during the last electoral cycle, the file in question had not only been audited by the international organization of Francophonie, but also experts from the different branches of the opposition and those of the presidential camp.
